Jill Inbar Photography 2023 Highlights
As we step into 2024, I’m taking a moment to reflect on the remarkable journey we've shared in 2023 and extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has encouraged and supported me this past year. 2023 has been filled with creativity, growth, and invaluable experiences that have further enriched my passion for photography.
Highlights of 2023
I kicked off the year by submitting a collection of my work to the esteemed Lens Culture Portrait Awards 2023, New York Times Portfolio Review and Review Santa Fe at Center Santa Fe.
It was a year filled with travel to places I’ve been before and some new ones. The lush landscapes of Northwest Connecticut, the Hudson Valley area, and Irish countryside, which I visited this fall, particularly captivated me. As such, they've inspired me to revisit and edit my photographs of Prospect Park since 2015. As I work through them, I'm also delving into Witold Rybczynsk’s book “A Clearing in the Distance,” a biography of Frederick Law Olmstead, to further my knowledge of him and the parks he created.
Exhibitions and Art Discoveries
Over this past year, exhibitions in and around New York challenged and inspired my work. At the Metropolitan Museum, Berenice Abbott's early explorations into a study of the cityscape in Berenice Abbott’s New York Album, 1929 is never far from my thoughts when continue to photograph the Gowanus neighborhood in Brooklyn for my ongoing project My Gowanus Souvenir.
Some of my favorite exhibitions from the last year include:
Alex Katz's Gatherings at the Guggenheim.
Edward Hopper’s New York at the Whitney.
Richard Avedon's Avedon 100 at Gagosian Gallery.
Lee Friedlander's Framed by Joel Coen at the Fraenkel Gallery.
Larry Sultan's Pictures from Home at Yancy Richardson.
Tina Barney: The Beginning at the Kasmin Gallery.
Judith Joy Ross’s Photographs at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
More events and shows!
Spring 2023 was marked by community engagement, proudly displaying my photographs at the CBE Community Art Show, thanks to the efforts of Tracy Penn Sweet and Beverly Crilly in organizing the vibrant event. Your support was greatly appreciated.
Additionally, contributing a piece to the Arts Gowanus art auction at the Patterns Gala affirmed my dedication to supporting the artistic community. I was thrilled to participate in The Artists of Brooklyn mural created by Emily Chiavelli and Johnny Thorton of Arts Gowanus. I’m honored to be featured on the mural, and if you haven’t seen it—It’s still up. Go find me on Nevins Street at President Street in Brooklyn.
In October I showcased part of My Gowanus Souvenir series by participating along with 500 other artists in the largest ever Arts Gowanus Open Studios event. I love the chance to interact with people at this event and share my passion with fellow art enthusiasts.
