The photographic series In the Magical Kingdom focuses on daily family life in the transformative time between childhood and adult as seen from my intimate perspective as a mother-wife-photographer. These images illustrate not only joy but also the frustration of family life with my husband, son and twin daughters. Ultimately, my aim is to sketch an enduring portrait of contemporary life and the flow of time as portrayed by my family. These images show personal moments not typically memorialized in snapshots juxtaposing the intense exasperated looks of my twin teenage daughters with moments of tenderness caught between the busyness of everyday life. Together the photographs in this series reflect the complex interactions associated with coming of age and the changing family dynamic that accompanies the loss of childhood.
